A little glimpse of the Valley Center Community and Valley Center Homes for Sale

In 1862, homesteaders came to the area after President Lincoln signed the Homestead Act permitting newcomers to claim 160 acres of land for a filing fee. The town was renamed Valley Center in 1887, 20 years after being known as Bear Valley which received that name in 1866, the largest Grizzly Bear in California History was captured.  The last reported Grizzly Bear in California was spotted in 1922.

Covering approximately 94 square miles with an average elevation of about 1300 feet, Valley Center is varied in topography with gently sloping to very hilly terrain which is the reason for many of the beautiful home site views. This unique topography coupled with the year round temps averaging in the upper 30’s to high 60’s in the winter and mid 50’s to the upper 80’s in the summer makes this an attractive and affordable retirement spot.

Allow yourself to enjoy the wonderful feeling of spaciousness in Valley Center. Just five short miles from Escondido shopping, Valley Center residents enjoy the peaceful & private feeling of a sparsely populated area with the convenience that a large town has to offer. With views of the Palomar Mountains (visit the Palomar Observatory) and a beautiful drive through the meandering roads lined with sycamore and live oak trees, you will truly appreciate calling Valley Center your home or 2nd home for relaxing vacations.
